These types of furnaces are the little brothers of older styles that used resistive heating elements to warm the room. These are just as warm, and actually use less electricity than older styles did. That being said, they are both very portable and can be classified as a portable furnace. As long as it keeps you warm and can be moved from one area to the other, it can be classified as such.
